Q: What is prefinished
plywood / what are the advantages of using
it?
|
Our prefinished plywood from Columbia
Forest Products is a domestically manufactured
material. The UV finish has to be factory applied
where the epoxy acrylate finish is cured using
ultra violet light. This produces a very tough
finish that resists scrapes, chips and is easy
to clean.
|
Q: Do you carry "Green" Plywood,
Flake, or MDF that has no formaldehyde? |
Yes we do. While there are trace amounts
of naturally occurring Formaldehyde in most
living things, all of our plywood from Columbia
Forest Products is manufactured with "Purebond" adhesive,
which has No Urea Formaldehyde. The plywood
can also be ordered prefinished using a NO VOC
(Volatile Organic Compound) Finish. Our Flake
and MDF can also be ordered as NAUF (No Added
Urea Formaldehyde) and FSC certified as well.

Q: What adhesive is recommended to use when
laminating a veneer to a substrate? |
Depends what type of backing is used
on the veneer. If 10m, 20m or 2ply veneer a
white PVA glue is recommended. On phenolic backed
veneer contact cement is acceptable as well as
a PVA glue. A veneer manufacturer does not warranty
a contact cement application for veneer to a
substrate board.
|
Q: What is the difference between natural
veneers and composite veneers? |
Composite veneers are a machined
product that will ensure consistency across every
sheet. This is a viable option for an area that
may be high traffic or high use and will sometimes
need to be replaced down the line. Natural veneers
are exactly that. They come from the specific
tree mentioned and usually there is some differentiation
between each log. Also with composite veneers
you have the ability to get looks of species
that are currently not available or have a high
cost factor.
|
Q: Does Atlantic Plywood stock custom veneers? |
Yes we do, in any species and in
any backer. 10 mil, 20 mil, 2 ply wood backer,
and poly backer. Also to go along with the custom
veneers we can manufacture custom panels to your
specifications. Cut to size or full panels as
well as Blueprint match panels.
|
Q: What are my delivery fees and minimum
charges? |
We ask for a minimum of $250.00 for
free delivery on our trucks. Orders of $150 to
$249 are charged a $15.00 handling charge.
|
Q: If certain products aren't in stock at
my local branch, when can I expect to see them? |
If the product is in stock at one
of the other Atlantic Plywood branches we use
a transfer system to ship stock between branches
to make as much stock as possible available to
our customer base, usually within a week. When
it is an urgent time issue, Atlantic Plywood
also uses LTL methods to ship product to our
customers as quickly as possible. If the product
needs to be ordered from the manufacturer we
give as accurate a lead time that can be established
by that company.
